Concealer Arsenal

As a fan of natural and breathable makeup, I can’t live without concealer. For me it’s even more of a necessity than foundation for its versatility and potency. The process of finding the right cocktail of concealers can be arduous, but hopefully this edited selection of concealers will help you out. Of course I have much more than just 4, but if a thief came and raided my makeup collection *knock on wood*, here are the 4 that I really hope remain.

My Skin Shade Reference: MAC NC25; Sephora Color IQ #2Y07 (2Y06 in winter)

To check what foundation color you are in various brands try out Sephora’s color IQ technology or Match My Makeup.

The Heavy Duty Go-To

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer (Custard for face and Vanilla for highlighting)

Shade: Custard for Face & Vanilla for highlighting

Price: $29 USD

This was my OG holy grail concealer (before I found RMS). I love it for its wand applicator and full coverage. It can be a tad drying, so be sure to regularly exfoliate, moisturize, and hydrate! Custard is the perfect shade for my face. It covers up hyper pigmentation well and has a long wear time. I even have male friends that love this concealer 😉 For special occasions or photography, I will use the shade vanilla for my highlight instead of the sheerer MAC highlighter. This will really pack a punch, so I wouldn’t recommend wearing this alone on a natural makeup day. A good drugstore dupe would be the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in shade #20 (has a slightly more yellow undertone and is less and $7 USD).

*Tip: If you want to use on blemishes, do NOT apply directly onto blemish with doe foot applicator (it can contaminate the rest of the tube with bacteria). Instead, transfer the product onto the back of your hand first before using a separate brush or your clean fingers to apply.

The Everything Concealer

RMS “Un” Cover Up

Shade: #22

Price: $36 USD

This is my favorite concealer hands down. It’s most suitable for those better skin days where you are just looking to even out your skin tone. For days that I don’t wear a foundation or tinted moisturizer, this is my go-to. It is certified organic and free of harsh chemicals, fragrance, and parabens, making it really gentle on sensitive skin. Typically I don’t like to conceal active blemishes, but if I have to I will use this. The balm’s creamy texture melts into the skim seamlessly and can be used anywhere on the face. Make you sure apply with clean fingers and tap tap away. It’s always in my handbag and the best thing to use before hopping off the plane.

My shade is 22. The yellow undertone works well for East Asian skin tones with a more yellowy/olive undertone.

*Side note: This is also Miranda Kerr’s favorite concealer! Who wouldn’t want to have skin like hers? Hmm… now if only you could buy dimples lol

The Highlighting Pen

MAC Prep + Prime Highlighter

Shade: Light Boost

Price: $27 USD

As a self-proclaimed beauty junkie, I have tried the highly acclaimed YSL Touche Eclat. I have it in shade 2, which I find a bit too pinky for my liking. It’s a great highlighting pen, but the formula is a bit too sheer if you wish for it to hide your dark circles at least a bit. That’s why my tried and true favorite is the MAC Prep + Prime Highlighter in Light Boost. Just as it’s namesake, it delivers that lit from within glow with light coverage. I almost always use this when I put on make up. Perfect for highlighting under the eyes, on the bridge on the nose, and chin.

*Side note: The highlighter in the shade Radiant Rose would be great for those with darker, cool tone under eye bags too!

The Under Eye Corrector

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Aging Concealer

Shade: Neutral Medium

Price: $24 USD

Here I have the travel sized tube. A little definitely goes a long way with this product. For both eyes I only need the amount of a grain of rice. Warm the product between your ring fingers and lightly tap around your eyes where there is darkness. It has a slightly salmon-y undertone that can cancel out any blue/purple tones. Mind you, this is primarily a corrector, so it is highly recommended to layer over the top with a light weight concealer that matches your skin tone. The product is slightly tacky, so be sure to set with a finely milled powder.

*Side Note: TBH if you happen to be the shade ‘Neutral Medium’, I recommend picking up the travel size on Ulta for $10 USD instead of the full sized on IT Cosmetics website. You only have to use the tiniest bit of product, so the 0.11oz travel sized will still last you ages.

Here are all 4 products with swatches in natural lighting.
